Elias Howe got the patient of his invention in 1846 for the lockstitch sewing machine.

The first buyer was a London people William Thomas. Elias Howe and his elder brother Amasa Bemis Howe started a business with William Thomas.
After their business disputed and Elias Howe wife’s death Elias Howe went back to the USA and saw that other manufacturers started sewing machines production without his consent. Elias Howe patented his invention before.
Elias Howe started litigation and won it. As a consequence, he earned royalties and other income.
Elias Howe founded The Howe Machine Co, which was run by Elias’s son-in-law.
Elias’s older brother Amasa Bemis Howe and later his son Benjamin Porter Howe owned and operated a sewing machine manufacturing company called “The Howe Sewing Machine Co”.
Elias Howe was born in 1819 and died in 1867, at the age of 48.
